Body Mass Index (BMI) - An Important Tool for Fitness and Beauty

Body Mass Index or BMI is an important index for fitness. Beauty is also depends on BMI. Today I will tell you why BMI is important and how you can use BMI to maintain your beauty and fitness.

At first let us know what is BMI. BMI is the ratio of body weight in kilograms and square of height in meters. The BMI is universally expressed in kg/m2. We can also calculate the BMI using pound and inches. In that case the ratio must be multiplied by a conversion factor 703 and the unit will be lb/in2.

Using The BMI we can understand our body weight condition. By using this index any person generally categorized as underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese. But there are also different classification in different standard. For example, WHO (World Health Organization) have 11 categories.

Generally BMI ranging from 18.5 to 25 kg/m2 indicates the normal weight. BMI lower than 18.5 indicates lower body weight. BMI ranging from 25 to 30 kg/m2 indicates the over weight. 30 or more BMI indicates obese.

Persons having BMI under 18.5 should consult with a doctor. They are susceptible for many problems such as nutritional deficiency, osteoporosis etc. They should take necessary steps to increase body weight.

Persons having BMI between 25 to 30 are at moderate risk with heart diseases, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetics etc. So, they should loose their body weight. 

Persons having BMI over 30 are in high risk for many disease like heart diseases, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetics etc. So, they should take immediate actions to loose their body weight.
